Luca graduated in 1983 from the Institute of European Design and later worked as photographer in Rome, Italy, collaborating with the Condè Nast group on L’uomo Vogue, Maison et jardin, Vogue Italia and Casa Vogue.

This versatile artist during the years 1987-1990 created music compositions for several artist recitals and a theatrical work and later from 1994-2009 was engaged as a professional anatomy illustrator.

Luca published several books for Springer, Informa and Casa Editrice delle Rose among others, while initiating his artistic incursions into photography and installations.

Luca’s first solo exhibit in January 2002 at Araldica Gallery in Bologna included The electrical garden, an installation with video, music and photography in light boxes, which proved a success. In February 2008 he was part of a group exhibition at Artefiera in Bologna.

He currently works and resides in Miami with his family.

statement

_I am attracted by cities, as a teeming space for human beings, created by people and yet almost having a life of their own. I like to create visionary worlds; pieced together like a puzzle, but with the advantage that everything fits as I desire. In my photography I make visual memoires of landscapes, families. In my painting I draw from dreamscapes to render my vision.

With my “light operas,” I research landscapes and then draw from my imagination to create these cities of light.

Then I print them out on layers of paper, cut them by hand and mount the scenography using LEDs to illuminate the layers in a 3D, ever-changing scenario.

They are something like poetic citations that I draw from the idea of cities, within the fragile set up of these light operas, as sort of tri dimensional windows on different cityscapes from my inner world nestled into a virtual albeit tangible one.

I want my artwork to be closely related to everyday life. My light boxes illuminate the room in which they hang creating a mood or environment with their soft ever-changing glow that would otherwise not be there.

In this sense the conceptual idea of my pieces is that of functional usability and interaction within an imagined whim.
